2008 SUMMER TOUR RECAP
Thursday June 19
New York to Baltimore
First day on the road, guess what happens- I break down in New Jersey. I wait three hours for the tow truck to come. Finally he comes and he asks me, Pep Boys or this other garage who’s cheaper and will have it done today. I say the cheaper guy. So we start going through the rougher part of town. We drive up and there’s twenty people that look pretty tough. I think, oh no, I made the wrong choice. So I meet the mechanic. He shows me an engine he built - “Wow” I say. Then he pops the alternator in ten minutes. And charges $60 and would not even take a tip. This was a life lesson for me.

Saturday June 21
Open Eye Cafe
Carrboro, North Carolina
So I got to Carrboro, NC. I’m doing a radio interview. There’s a typo or something in my bio somehow, and the interviewer asks me about my large family. My ten brothers. There’s only one problem, I only have two. Well I really liked the lady doing the interview and I didn’t want to embarrass her. So I said they were all just fine. Later after the interview she came up with names for all of them. I think Johann was one.

Thursday June 26
The Juggling Gypsy Cafe
Wilmington, North Carolina
The Juggling Gypsy Cafe. This is one of my favorite places to play. Bash who does the booking is also a performer. I went on after the fire drumming. The fire drumming was 6 djembes and two people each tossing the two fire balls connected by a chain into the air. And then catching them. The show was great. I really enjoy playing there. This was my second time.

Friday June 27
The Acoustic Coffeehouse
Johnson City, Tennessee
I walk in and they set me up on this huge stage. I’m like, yeah, this is great. Then they’re like, no, you’re on the other side in the cafe part. And then he says, “don’t worry, there will be more people on that side.” It turns out he was right. The guy at the counter had a Johnny Cash shirt so I knew it would be a good night to bust out my cover of “Folsom Prison.” The only other cover song I had in my set was Paul Simon’s “Graceland” and they loved it, especially the part when it says “Memphis, Tennessee.” They were singing at the top of their lungs. So I did my two hours. And then they asked me if I wanted to play live on their web station. I said yes. It was a great show. I’ve got to say it is true, Southern hospitality does exist. After the show I thought I locked my keys in the car. I went back in and asked the guy at the counter if he had seen my keys. He said he would help me break into my car. And he did. Fifteen minutes later I was driving to the hotel.

Sunday June 29
Spazzatorium Galleria / 21:11
Greenville, North Carolina
The Spazz show was moved to a new location. This show was amazing. There were thirty or more people sitting right in front of me listening to every word. My last song, “The Navigator,” they clapped along, it was great. Setting Sun played later that night. They were really good.

Tuesday July 1
Neutral Ground Coffeehouse
New Orleans, Louisiana
Oh sweet New Orleans.
It was exciting- this was my first time playing there. And I can’t wait to go back. I also got a chance to check out Frenchmen Street. I’m addicted to brass bands now. The music down there is amazing. Washboard Chaz, Rebirth Brass Band, The Stooges, Glen David Andrews and the Lazy Six.

Saturday July 12
Boston, Massachusetts
So I’ve got to say I really enjoyed the southern tour. I met some cool people and saw some amazing places. I can’t wait to do it again.
